This book has seen Waylander become on of Gemmell's most popular heroes, along with Druss and Jon Shannow, and has spawned two sequels (the most recent to be released in March). The praise for this book and the character of Waylander is well deserved. Waylander is an assasin, but no without a conscince; the epitome of the modern-day anti-hero. Of ocurse there are no blacks and whites to Waylnder- only infinite shades of grey, and his character progresses nicely through the story, helped along by a terrific plotline and many very memorable moments. Caught in the pardox of wanting to say everything about this book, and at the same not having enough time to say what I want, I'll just say that this is a great book with some excellent characters. Typical Gemmell action without seeming typical at all, brilliant characters and some fine threads of interest. A favourite of many- and me included, this is one of the many 'must read' in the Gemmell collection.
