Here's a salute to those who served with the Third Marine Division in WWII, and especially the Signal Company "Diamond 612." These men spent many sleepless nights on Bouganville, Guam , and Iwo Jima, sending and receiving radio messages. If you have seen the movie Windtalkers, those exceptional codetalkers were part of this unit as well.

Many are "hams" today---amateur radio operators.

Unless your father is (no such thing as was) a Marine, you probably were not awakened by the words "HIT THE DECK!"

Unless your father is a Marine, you probably were not admonished with such words as, "NO EXCUSES IN THE MARINES!"

Unless your father is a World War II Marine, you probably do not feel as though you were there when they raised the flag on Iwo Jima.

Unless your father is a Marine, your first spoken words were probably not "Semper Fi."

Unless your father is a Marine, you probably did not sing the Marine Hymn at the age of three (every verse!)

And, unless your father is a Marine, it's doubtful you were aware that "Pass the red lead" meant "Pass the ketchup."
