I wonder how many people that live in NYS know this little tid bit of information?

For a short time, New York City was the U.S. capital and George Washington was inaugrated there as the first president on April 30, 1789.

Hello I am Dianne from New York. No not the city!. I am in Upstate. When people hear New York they always think New York City, but there is much more in this state than the hussle and bussle of NYC. I grew up in Rome, NY. which is located almost right in the middle of the state. I lived there all of my life until recently. I now reside in Newburgh, NY. I, like most people that live in NYS complain about the weather. In winter it's too cold, spring too wet, summer to hot and humid, and fall is too wet windy and cold, but i know we all really love our change of seasons. I would like to share with you some of the sites, and, things to do in NYS, and even a little history. I am not a pro at this, but I will try my best to make it interesting.

I guess the best place to start would be Rome, since that's where I grew up. There is alot of history in Rome, such as Fort Stanwix, Clintons Ditch, Erie Canal Village, and just outside of Rome is the Oriskany Battle field. There is alot to see as far as history in Rome, and as i think of it i'll try to put it on here. So lets get started. A LITTLE BIT OF ROME!

Next we have Erie Canal Village. If you like to see how people lived with no modern appliances, and when life was not so fast paced, you'll love this place. You can still catch a ride down the Erie Canal on a mule pulled boat..You Can take a tour on here,or if ever in Rome take the tour.

I guess thats enough history for now. If you like to go on a picnic, boating, camping, swimming, fishing, or just a nice walk, there is Lake Delta just about ten min north, or Oneida Lake about 20 miles west of Rome. If you enjoy driving a snowmobile, or skiing there are trials for both there. Just outside of Rome is alot of farming. In the summer there are fresh fruits and vegetable stands all over the place in the area. Now I'll try to take you up north aways to Old Forge located in the beautiful Adirondack Mountains.

Old Forge is about 50 miles north of Rome. It is a big tourist attraction. No matter where you are in the Old Forge or the Adirondack Mountains the view is breath taking. There are many lakes that run through the Northlands. Anything that you enjoy doing outside or in, you can do there. In the summer Old Forge is great for camping, fishing, hiking in the mountains, bike riding, just about anything you would enjoy doing outside can be done here. In the winter there is down hill skiing and Xcountry, ice fishing, riding snowmobile. If you like to see wildlife, you will most likely see it here. Old Forge also has NYS's largest water ride park. "The Enchanted Forest". A great place for the whole family to enjoy.
