ELWYNN EVINDEM

"A thousand and two years of living and I never figured that out until just now. You really do learn something new every day!"

Elf maid, sorceress, and Princess of the Kingdom of Havenwood, Elwynn Evindem is the Chief Administrator of the Bards Hall, and the individual responsible for the financing and construction of the Bards' headquarters. During a visit to Montfort, Elwynn was caught up in the events surrounding the Cleansing. Recognizing that the Church of the Holy Redeemer represented a terrible threat to the inhabitants of the city and possibly to her home realm of Havenwood, the elf maid committed her considerable resources towards the defeat of Proctor John and his minions. She financed the Bards Hall of Montfort to act as a base of operations from which to strike at the Church, and after the Church War she continued to act as Chief Administrator, financing and advertising the Hall as a center for the performing arts.

Elwynn stands roughly 5' 6", (somewhat tall for an elf) and has a slender build. Her large, inquisitive eyes are dark blue in color and her straight hair is light brown.; She is almost always seen wearing blue wizard's robes and an oversized pointed witch's hat. The latter is a repository for a rather startling collection of books, wands, staves, flying carpets, and other 'tricks of the trade'.

Early in her career Elwynn discovered the means of traveling to alternate realities, and used this ability to train with some of the most enlightened and powerful mages in any history. Under the name of Nimue, she became the only apprentice of Merlin of Britain, and while under his tutelage she participated in many of the Arthurian legends.; As the Lady of the Lake, Elwynn presented the sword Excalibur to Arthur and received it again upon his death. (It now sits in her umbrella stand at home.) She was also responsible for imprisoning Merlin in a crystal cavern, an incident which she claims was borne out of improper advances made by the old wizard towards his student. After Merlin's imprisonment Elwynn took over his duties as the magical protector of Arthur and his knights, and engendered the hatred of Arthur's nemesis, Morgan Le Fay, with whom she had a great many conflicts until the end of the Arthurian age. It is said that in the Last Great Battle, before the end of all time, Elwynn and Morgan will meet once more in a fight to the death.

After the death of Arthur Elwynn continued her studies in magic, finally graduating with a Doctorate degree after several of study. It was during this period that a temporal accident arrested the aging process in both the elf maid and her cat familiar, Icarus. The accident halted Elwynn's age at 43, (the equivalent of roughly 24 in terms of human development) although she is still susceptible to death by exterior influences.

Elwynn has spent most of her time exploring different realities and times, although she seems to have a fondness for 20-21st century Earth.; Albert Einstein was a member of her thesis committee, and she seems to know a good many other individuals from this time period.; She is an ardent fan of Earth music, sports, and culture, and has introduced such things as Rock and Roll and Baseball to Ifrean.

At first appearances, Elwynn appears as another absent-minded sorceress, "scatterbrained but a good girl in her way" as T. H. White wrote of her alter ego, Nimue. But under her seemingly frivolous attitude there lies an extremely formidable intellect and a very deep wisdom. It may be in part to her incredible wealth of knowledge that the elf may seem somewhat addle minded, for a thousand and two years of living is a great deal to keep in one's head. It is obvious, however, that Elwynn has much more on her mind than baseball. She is vehemently opposed to evil in all it's forms, and will go to great lengths to right any injustices she is witness to. While her actions may sometimes seem impulsive, often they are eventually revealed as part of an overall strategy. Her involvement in the war against the Church, for example, has brought unseen rewards to Havenwood, for in aiding Montfort the elven kingdom has strengthened it's ties with the King of Claremont while also winning the Elves access to an important trading center.

Possessing a strong elvish sense of humour and a cheerful disposition, Elwynn is loyal and protective of her friends, and takes her responsibilities as Chief Administrator very seriously. Her strong business sense and endless list of contacts have given the Bards an invaluable resource, and under her guidance the financial success of the Hall seems assured.
