I'm gonna start with my favourite guy....

Shawn David Green was selected by the Blue Jays in the first round of the June 1991 Free Agent Draft...won the International League batting title with a .344 average while playing for Triple-A Syracuse in 1994 and was the Blue Jays' Minor League Player of the Month for May...called up to Tor 6/10/94 and collected his first Major League hit 6/13/94 at Cleveland...

1997 SEASON
Had the best year of his career, posting highs in home runs (16), runs (57), hits (123), walks (36), games (135), at-bats (429), runs (57) and stolen bases (14). ... Started the season strong with four home runs in April, including his first career multi-hit game, a two-home run effort against Seattle on April 25....

Now for...

Alexander Scott Gonzalez was selected by the Blue Jays in the 14th round of the 1991 June Free Agent Draft...at the age of 20, was the youngest player in the American League to start the season and the second youngest in the Majors, next to Chan Ho Park of the Dodgers...

1997 SEASON
Though Gonzalez continued to be a light hitter at the plate (.239), he excelled on the field, leading American League shortstops with a .986 fielding percentage (eight errors in 558 chances)...

Posted career highs and led the team with 42 doubles, 30 home runs and 274 total bases. ... Also had a career-high 136 hits en route to batting .262. ... he hit the first three grand slams of his career to become the only player in franchise history to hit three grand slams in a season. ... Started the season hot, hitting .345 in April with five home runs and 15 RBI. ... He homered in four consecutive games from June 3-7, tying a club record held by George Bell and Joe Carter. ... Of his 30 home runs, 28 came against right-handed pitchers. ... Matched a career-high with five RBI twice (July 11 at Boston and July 17 at Texas). ... Hit .312 in September, ending the season on a career-high 16-game winning streak. ... Also led the team with four pinch hits and 64 walks. ... Was the seventh-hardest player in the league to double up, getting caught once every 86.5 at-bats.

Paul John Quantrill was selected by Boston in the sixth round of the June 1989 free-agent draft...spent more than 5 seasons in the Red Sox organization, including 93 Major League appearances, before he was traded to Philadelphia on 5/31/94 with Billy Hatcher in exchange for Wes Chamberlain and Mike Sullivan...on 7/20/92 at Kansas City won his Major League debut...earned his first Major League save on 10/4/92 vs the Yankees...in 1991 was named Pawtucket's Most Valuable Pitcher...attended the University of Wisconsin, where he was the 1987 Rookie of the Year and 1989 Most Valuable Player.

1997 SEASON
Quantrill's second season with the Blue Jays proved to be memorable as he set a single season record for appearances by a Canadian-born pitcher with 77, good for third in the American League. He finished fourth among relief pitchers in the league with a 1.94 ERA, and was 6-7 with five saves over 88 innings. Quantrill finished the season with seven consecutive scoreless innings.
