If you haven't noticed I LOVE ARCHAEOLOGY and ANYTHING to do with it!! That's why I'm an anthropolgy/archaeology major at the University of Winnipeg. I attended field school for the first time this May 19th (pretty much as soon as the ground had thawed!)- June 26th. It was held 20 minutes north of Winnipeg, at the Lockport Village site. It is a deep, multi-component pre-contact site that was first occupied about 3,300 years ago and where maize horticulture was practiced briefly 600-700 years ago. There were about 20 people on the dig, excluding the supervisors, and I think we ALL had a BLAST! Sure the bugs were annoying, the worms seemed to think our units were public rest rooms, and every animal in the world thought it nice to curl up and die in our units, but it was fun! Even if Professor Monks MADE us dig in a DOWNPOUR for a whole day, hiding in plastic covers and becoming knee deep in muck...it was an experience...yes...that's what it was...hehe =] And who cares that we had to write our final paper, draw a contour map and write our final exam all in the same week. It made us stronger..hehe yeah right...it made us damn tired and crusty! But through it all, we not only learned something, we also made some pretty good friendships along the way...and I wouldn't trade ANY of the time we were there for ANYTHING! Anyway...
