Ground Flower-The Biography

In the fall of 1993, three college freshmen joined together under circumstances that probably had to do more with fate than with coincidence. The musicians seemed to be drawn together by an unseen force. Well, two of them through an unseen force, the third answered an ad in the Bathroom Buddy newsletter of the dorm. The band got their instruments together in the second floor lounge and played just two cover songs. The police quickly showed up with complaints of loud noise from two blocks away! So the jam was a bust but something happened. After playing just those two songs the freshmen had become a musical entity. It was not said out loud and it did not have to be; it just was. Three weeks later the band played three original songs at the campus amateur night and blew the crowd away!

Today the Central Washington band has a huge arsenal of songs. They have played Seattle clubs and theaters as well as universities and fraternity shows. The fan base is getting larger everyday. The band is hailed by many to be a powerful juggernaut that makes it's way deep into the human soul. An EP was released in 1994 and sold all of the five hundred copies in the first three months. It is to be noted that although a great deal of these tapes melted on the dash boards of many peoples cars they were still enjoyed for the limited time they were able to be used. Ground Flower is becoming more and more well known for their marathon live shows. From tiny house parties to large theaters or coffee house acoustic shows there isn't a room they cannot handle.

Lars Emerick is the vocalist and guitarist of the band. He watches a lot of television (mostly educational, PBS, TLC, etc.) He is a big fan of most contemporary alternative rock groups. He listens to many types of music although there are a few styles he has shut out altogether. His songs are noted to be very deep and brooding, but man are they catchy. Lars plays an upside down right handed guitar because he is left handed and nobody ever has any left handed guitars. Don't talk to Lars about Politics.

Nate Weller is from North Bend. That says a lot to anyone who has ever been there. His father is a grocery man and a darn fine one at that. Nate watches the same crap everyone else watches on TV. Reggae music and heavy skater stuff is what Nate usually likes to listen to although you can also catch him listening to Country. Nate is also probably the nicest guy you will ever meet. Very kind and considerate. Weller's bass playing is strong and soulful. Many Ground Flower fans consider Nate's bass work to be the glue that holds the band together.

Steve Damm grew up in the Kittitas/Ellensburg region of Washington State. His father works at Wanapum Dam. Get over it, it's not funny anymore. Steve watches crap on TV that nobody should ever watch. Drumming has been a very positive activity for Steve. For many years it has been the only way of venting his aggression and endless amounts of energy. Steve is a working drummer although six years of his life were stolen from him by a local grocery store. He is not bitter. Steve says the only reason he plays drums is to stick it to all those kids that made fun of him in high school when he is rich and famous. He is the biggest Keith Moon fan ever.
