Probably my favorite event in all of Forensics is Readers Theater, also known as Interpreters Theater. However, it's very time consuming and very demanding. RT involves taking selections from various forms of literature, such as plays, novels, poetry, etc, and weaving it all together into a form of mini-play. RTs involve three to fourteen people, though three to five seems the most common, and also involves blocking just like any stage production. What makes it different is the use of the binder (which holds your script) as a representation of the literature, emphasizing the fact that you're interpreting the material as oposed to straight acting. Also, you're generally not supposed to look at those you're speaking to. You use what's known as off stage focus, to give the illusion that you're looking at each other. All in all, it's a LOT of very hard work, but the results are very much worth it when you get it right. That's why Split Reader's Theater is so great. Unlike the traditional RT, which is 25 minutes long, split RT is generally in the area of 10-15 minutes and is put together in a limmited amount of time. (Like a couple of hours.) At Modesto junior College's Spring Fling tournament I had the opprotunity to participate in split RT and what follows is the result of about an hour and a half of frantic cutting and pasting. We were given cuttings from the play "Nina In The Morning", another play that I can't remember, a long poem from the begginning of a Calvin and Hobbes book, "SeinLanguage", by Jerry Seinfeld, some childrens' poetry (including "The Owl And The Pussycat"), and "The Grass Is Always Greener Over The Septic Tank" by Erma Bombeck. We totally massacred the stuff.. slashed it apart with machetes and held it together with Band Aids. (One of which later was applied to my bely button.)

Our theater was called "Having It Your Way" and revolved around sex, mainly, how all of are sexual in different ways and how it's often QUITE amusing. We took silver and though there were only two other theaters but that didn"t diminish our happiness. We had a lot of fun and that's what really matters. =]

"Have you ever seen a flamingo dance..?"

"What turns YOU on?"

Jeff-"Relationships"

Dave-"Leather!"

Drella - "Holding Hands"

Nadia- "Dirty movies!"

Hmm... you think maybe we're with the wrong people?

"SEX! We LIKE it, we WANT it, we NEED it"

"...but we all want sex in different ways..."
