My name is Levone Winston and I have been selected
to participate in the 2012-2013, Ms. North Carolina Central University (NCCU) Alumni contest for the Durham Chapter.
I accept this opportunity to represent the NCCU Durham
chapter, with pride and excitement. NCCU was founded on the motto of
“Truth and Service”. As an Alumna of NCCU, I have dedicated
my life to live by this motto.
As a native North Carolinian, from Rocky Mount; I can
not help but be vested in the success of our students. I graduated from Rocky
Mount Senior High School in 1983. During a discussion with the high school guidance
counselor one day, she assisted me in making my final decision to attend college.
Family members, teachers and Alumni of NCCU, were also a guiding force in my choice to attend NCCU. I received my Bachelor of Arts degree in Criminal Justice in 1988.
I am currently employed at Durham Public Schools in the Exceptional Children Program.
The African proverb “it takes a village
to raise a child” has been a motivating factor in my life. I give
many thanks to the village of people that embraced me during my life and provided me guidance.
This is one of the main reasons I have dedicated my life to impact children and young adults by encouraging them to
work hard in school and attend college, especially NCCU. I take pride in my efforts
to assist in producing educated productive citizens.
The Mr. and Ms. NCCU Alumni contest provides me an
opportunity to continue to give back. The contest is one way the National Alumni Association provides scholarships for students. The contestants that raise the largest amount of money will be crowned, Mr. and Ms. NCCU Alumni. The crowning will take place during half time at the NCCU Homecoming game on November 3rd, 2012.
Please join me in my effort of assisting students in
furthering their education by making a tax deductible contribution no later than August 31st, 2012.
Thank you in advance for your support and well wishes.
Your consideration and contributions are greatly appreciated. Let us join together
to ensure that all students have an opportunity to receive a quality education.
Checks or money orders should be made payable to: “Durham
Chapter-NCCU Alumni Association”. It is VERY IMPORTANT to note on the memo line “Levone Winston, Ms. Alumni
(Durham Chapter)”. This will ensure proper credit is provided to the Durham Chapter for this effort. Please
mail all donations to the following address:
