Capt. William A. McGinety

Born: Feb 26, 1840 Near Lexington, Fayette, KY

Enlisted: July 15, 1862 at Demossvile, Pendleton, KY as a Pvt. in Company "E", 7th KY CAV. His occupation when enlisted was Harness Maker.

Discharged: July 15, 1865 at Edgefield, TN

He also served in the Kentucky State Guards

Personal Description: fairly complected, eyes blue, brown hair

Married: Hester Jane HITCH, Sept 20, 1864 near Concord Church, Pendleton county, KY, by Rev. Henry P. THOMPSON. Celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary together in 1912.

Children: Edward Hitch McGINETY March 28, 1866 John William Sept. 13, 1872 Della May Oct. 07, 1874 married Arthur L. BYRON all living as of April 8, 1915

War Sketch

July 17, 1862 he was captured in battle and paroled in two or three days and sent to Camp Chase, OH as a paroled prisoner. While there, about December 1st, he contracted mumps. (he apparently missed the battle at Richmond, KY Aug 27 - 31).

July 1863 near Nashville contracted scurvey.

December 7, 1863 at Sparta, TN contracted chills and fever from exposure on a march. Draft rendevous at Louisville, KY. March 1864; returned to regiment in summer of 1864 at Wauhatchie, TN but ordered back to Louisville because of debilitation. Returned to regiment few days before their discharge in July 1865.

Resided at Falmouth, KY from discharge till 1890 working as a saddler and farmer.

At time of pension application Jan. 25, 1890 his address was 213 West 5th St., Cincinnati, Hamilton, OH.

He spent is final years in the National Military Home, Montgomery co, OH.

Died July 24, 1919 of chronic interstitial nephritis.

His son, John William, lived at 351 Lemcke Annex, Indianapolis, IN at the time of his death.

He was buried in Riverside Cemetery, Flamouth, Pendleton co, KY.
