Good gals and guys work for Operations!

Le Femme Nikita

This is a great adventure serial, and does touch, if
only slightly, on those facets of society that the
population must become conversant with before
society can change for the better. Of course, I am
talking about hidden agenda's and covert action.

The most irritating part of the whole show is when
Nikita narrates at the start of each show, the
complete baloney "their means are ruthless but their
ends are just". What fantasy world does that come
from??? She is a slave to these guys for a crime she
didn't commit?

Societies which engage in dirty tricks,
assassinations, manipulation of the masses, mind
control, corporate crimes, cover ups, broken
treaties and generally hypocritical and superficial
behaviors to steal the greatest part of the planets
resources and put it into the hands of a few at
whatever the cost to indigenous peoples in terms of
genocide and misery, must expect some retaliation.
To identify any group in this situation dedicated to
preventing retaliation as 'just' is mangling the
meaning of the word.

If she lived in some place that practiced what it
preached, and was being treacherously cheated,
then her ruthless companions might be considered
just. However, as long as her ruthless means are
running a defense for ruthless piracy (the real world
folks) she should not even use the word 'just', as it
has no place in her world: not for her personally, or
in what she is part of.

In one episode Nikita says 'I do not believe it is OK
to be mean'. This seemingly trite statement carries
great weight with me. Over and over everywhere in
the world we see mean people using dirty tricks to
exercise their one-step-upmanship in vile ways.
Kind and gentle people are abused until they
become perpetrators themselves. Nikita's boss says
to her, "there are no brownie points for fair play"
and I have to laugh! Until societies realize that
crime breeds crime, people will agree with her boss'
statement.

The theme of an innocent person forced into let's
say an ethically compromised position is a valued
theme for those who support justice. The ability to
survive such injustice is also a positive theme that I
like to see on television.

In this year's season finale Nikita holds the key to
life and death of operations. She believes that
Operations is not acting simply out of selfishness
but has a higher purpose.

C'mon Nikita. Notwithstanding that some of the
very nicest people in the world work for operations,
face the facts: operations has been subterfuged by
a global conspiracy that simply puts guns to heads
of the leaders and tells them what to do, and the
rest of the time, a few and not all seeing what
baloney it all is, engage in their own personal
agenda's. Yes, Saddam does lend stability to the
region and that is one reason why he is still there,
but there is a bigger picture. When President Bush
held confirmation hearings for Gates as the DCI
to follow Webster, Mel Goodman got up and
speaking for the Analysts said that Operations had
disregarded the programs assembled by the analyst
and engaged in activities that were not part of the
program. Keep working on it Nikita and maybe
you'll figure it out. Meanwhile, don't lose that
big heart of yours!

In the company of ruthless killers, Nikita brings
unrelenting compassion and beauty episode after
episode. In a world where compassion is
tantamount to failure, Nikita breaks the rules!!
