Sukhoi Su-27 Flanker

Su-27 Flanker

Looks are misleading. The Su-27 looks like a bigger MiG-29. But the "Flanker" is not just the "Fulcrum's" big brother; it is an advanced design that demonstrates that the Sukhoi design bureau is neck-and-neck in the race for escellence with the better known MiG organization.

Chosen as the principal fighter of Soviet air forces, the "Flanker" is beyond question an aerodynamic miracle. It was first seen in the West as a blurred image on a grainy film, but the veil of secrecy has lifted. In visits to air shows abroad, the Sukhoi's increible agility, including it's tail-sitting "Cobra" maneuver, has never been matched by any other preformer. This is a pilot's aircraft: the man in the cockpit can fling this ship all over the sky.

Some experts say that the Su-27's radar and missiles are not as advanced as the basic design of the aircraft, but they are as good as they need to be. It would be a mistake to underestimate this impressive fighting machine.
