Korean War Hero

PFC Joseph G. Bucknavage

Son of Mr & Mrs Frank Bucknavage Miners-Mills, section of Wilkes-Barre.
PFC Bucknavage was killed in action in Korea west of Nantong River, on Sept 24,1950 exactly one month to the day from the time of his arrival.
His body arrived at the Wilkes-Barre station at Lehigh Valley, Railroad Company August 23,1951. It was met by details from the Miners-Mills Post 741 American Legion and Parsons Post of VFW. then escorted to the family home.

     At the time of his enlistment, July 21, 1949, his 17th birthday. Bucknavage was attending Coughlin High School. He received his training at Fort Dix, NJ. and Fort Hood, Texas. He was then shipped to Korea.

He was a member of Blessed Sacrament Church. Laid to rest in St. Mary's Cemetery Hanover Township,
on August 27,1951.
