Attended Several Grade Schools (1st - 8th) including Columbia, John Muir, and Whitworth.

Quit High School and, due to law stating all children living within Seattle City Limits were required to attend school, went to live in Glendale (8th South), located just outside the city limits, with "Grandpa Irish"

After leaving school, worked several misc. jobs including selling newspapers on a downtown Seattle corner.

Ultimately worked as a jitney driver/stevedore for Black Ball Freight Co. His job included living aboard the boat while it traveled between Olympia and the San Juan Islands picking up and delivering cargo.

    Married Irene Agnes Rode (b.Jan 30, 1923 Lind, WA d. Sep 1, 1993 Auburn, WA)

Needing a more stable "at home" job, went to work for Foster & Kliesier Co. camouflaging the roofs of Boeing Aircraft Co. They built "artificial towns" complete with roads, trees, house, etc. on the roofs so, from the air, they would appear to be a part of the surrounding communities.

August 28, 1943 -

    Drafted into the US Army - Serial # 39213751 basic Training - Camp Callan, Ca. After Basic, returned to Seattle to board ship headed for the South Pacific.

    Served with the 487th AAA AW Bn. in Lae, New Guinea, Noonfour Island (65 mi west of Biak, NG), and the Philipines.

    Returned home and discharged, Corporal, Mar 2, 1946. Remained in the Reserves.

Started working for Prestolite, a Division of National Carbide - manufacturing various gasses.

Left Prestolite after a very few months and went to work for Zappfe Silver Plate Co. ($1.05 per hr) as an apprentice in hopes of better career opportunity.
