Puma club Acrhives

Now is your chance to relive those classic puma moments in our response to the match of the seventies with write ups taken from the Ulster Star.

Early Lead Vanishes

Pumas 4-4 Kilmakee Rangers

The Pumas set out their stall early playing with a defensive side, but took the lead on ten minutes through Stephen Allen, after Carl Towman and Gary King had missed chances for Kilmakee. Pressure paid off for Kilmakee with 3 goals coming within 5 minutes. Then tactical changes saw Martin McAllister leave the field in disgust, claiming it would be his last game for the team (lies). To cap it all two more goals from Stephen Allen and a goal for Tony Ewing gave the Pumas a well deserved point.

Taggart Winner

Pumas 3 - 2 Maghagaberry

Pumas came to life in the second half to recover from conceding a soft early goal. Lee Kelly put them level and later Stephen Allen scored direct from a corner. Colin Beckett the equalised to make it 2-2, but Pumas were not to be denied their first ever win in the last game of the season with a stinging Bill Taggart volley.

PUMAS PULL OFF

SLOAN CUP UPSET

Ledley Hall 3 - 3 Pumas

This has to go down as one of the greatest upsets in the lisburn league history. Minnows the Lisburn Pumas currently languishing second bottom in the third division taking a well deserved point off Ledley Hall, a side currently chasing the first division title and in the semi finals of the Mulholland Cup. The Pumas went into the game with the perfect attitude, having nothing to lose and took the game to the home side straight away. Ledley were obviously thrown off balance by the positive style of play from the Pumas and it took them a long time to settle into the game. They finally opened the scoring on 30 minutes when Johnathon McKeown blasted home from the edge of the area. The floodgates were expected to open after that but the Pumas stunned the first division high flyers when they pulled level within a minute. Stephen Allen finishing off a Tony Ewing through ball. As expected Ledley stepped up the pressure at the start of the second half and soon edged 2-1 ahead through Paul English. Once again the Pumas were equal to the task and a fine solo effort from Stephen Allen brought them level again. Shock of all shocks came fifteen minutes from the whistle when the third division side edged 2-3 ahead with a fine finish from Gavin O'Reilly. Ledley had to depend on a disputed penalty in the last minute, coming from Martin McAllister's challenge on Mark Bowers in the box. Bowers then converted from the penalty spot to save their blushes on a day when the Pumas deserved all the glory.
