Distribution
Native to the west coast of North America, the Mackenzie River drainage (Canada) and the Kamachatka Pennisula in south eastern Siberia. Rainbow Trout were introduced to New Zealand in 1877 and are now distributed througout the North and South Islands. Rainbow Trout were transferred to Australia and are now distributed throughout Tasmania, the temperate parts of Victoria and New South Wales, the south west corner of Western Australia and in the highlands of New Guinea, similar to Brown Trout.

Comments
In Australia Rainbow Trout are less common than Browns and retain a certain mystique. They are often very aggressive and statistically easier to catch. The species is renowned for thier strength, being noted for its long runs with the line and tendancy to leap high out of the water.
