MARTIN WILLIAM RUSSELL MARTY RUSSELL passed away Friday, February 15, 2002. Marty worked for the Post Office from 1980 through October 1, 1997, and served the Local as a Steward. Funeral arrangements are made through Sisco's Funeral Chapel in Springdale, where the viewing will be from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. Monday, February 18. There will be no funeral service, but there will be a graveside funeral ceremony at the National Cemetery in Fayetteville (south part of town). The burial ceremony will be at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, February 19, 2002 -- National Cemetery. He was born Sept. 18, 1948, in Portsmouth, Va. He was raised by his father, Robert Fran nklin Russell and his paternal grandmother, Myrtle Cash Russell. A retired postal worker and member of the Sequoyah Methodist Church in Fayetteville, Russell was also a decorated combat veteran of the Vietnam War where he served as a Navy Medical Corpsman with the U.S. Marine Corps. He was a 1966 graduate of Fayetteville High School and he earned an associate degree in nursing from the University of Arkansas. He was a 7th degree black belt in Judo and he enjoyed camping and hunting. Survivors include his wife, Jan Brinson Russell of the home; one daughter, Erin Russell of Fayetteville; and one brother, Larry Russell of Springdale. Graveside services will be Tuesday, Feb. 19, 2002, at the Fayetteville National Cemetery with the Rev. Sarah Bainbridge officiating. The family receive friends on Monday from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Sisco Funeral Chapel in Springdale.
