The Tale of the Terrible Toys
by Richard Lee Byers
September, 1998, a Minstrel Book from Pocket Books

Carter Meacham is lonely, bored, and dreading the beginning of school when he finds some antique toys in the attic--a wooden soldier, a snake, and a jack-in-the-box. But something's strange. Carter thinks they're looking at him, even moving when he turns away.

Then, the wooden soldier salutes him and Carter finds that the toys not only move, they talk! He promises to keep their secret and the living toys soon become his best friends. But when strange and dangerous things suddenly start happening at school and around his house, Carter wonders if his new friends could be responsible. Are the toys just playing games or are they deadly serious?
