8 Years Gone©
(Hollie-Lyn's Song)

(Dedicated to Dennis Hammond, Prisoner of War)

He was 8 years gone when she was born,
Captured in a land far away.
But she wears his name on a bracelet on her arm,
And thinks of him every day.

He was a young Marine fighting for his country,
In a war in Vietnam.
She's a young girl now fighting for him,
Wishing her country gave a damn.

Above her bed there hangs a picture,
Of that Marine whose name she wears.
She looks at it often and wonders if he's alive,
Only sixteen but she really cares.

He was a young Marine fighting for his country,
In a place so far away.
She's a young girl now fighting for him,
In the good old USA.

She sees his name engraved in granite,
And runs her finger across the stone,
She can't understand why her country has abandoned him there,
And wishes they would bring him home.

He's a Marine now held as prisoner,
In that place called Vietnam,
She's a young activist fighting for him,
Teaching others to give a damn.
