Fleece was formed on January 14, 1997. One night after a Christian meeting on our university campus Mark said that he thought it would be cool to be in a band. Dave and Richie liked the idea and so Fleece was born. After about two months of practice and searching, a friend of ours introduced us to a drummer from his church, Jason. Immediately the four of us developed a rapport with each other and quickly it became apparent that our individual styles were nicely fusing together into what we call a unique blend of alternative & pop music.
The name FLEECE was proposed by Mark as taken from Judges 6:37 "I will place a wool of fleece on the threshing floor". In this verse and the verses to follow it describes Gideon's sign from the Lord as the fleece was dry and the ground wet from the morning dew. Gideon tested the will of God a second time and asked if God was going to use him to save Israel then make the fleece dry and the ground wet. The next morning it was as Gideon asked. The dry fleece symbolized that God would use Gideon for great things. Our Fleece before God is the same. If God is to use our band for His purpose He will open the way and guide us through His will for each day, each show and each project we work on.
