M. S. Forstadt is an archaeologist and photographer currently pursuing his Ph.D. from the department of anthropology at Harvard University. In addition to his recent work on the Iron Age of Kazakstan, Forstadt is planning a new research project in the southern Russian republic of Kalmykia. The new project focuses on a number of issues, including the domestication of the horse on the Eurasian steppe and the archaeology of the medieval Khazar state. Click on the icon below to view a photo gallery of his recent work, starting with a map showing the location of sites he is currently investigating: Iron Age Tuzusai in southeastern Kazakstan; multi-component Zakhanata in northern Kalmykia. The photos which follow are all from the Iron Age project in southeastern Kazakstan. Email me for further details.
