Why did I create a web site such as this? Well, it’s actually quite simple. A few years ago a movie came out called “Swing Kids.” It never came to my hometown, so I had to wait for the video release and make due with the soundtrack (which rocks by the way)! I wanted to see the movie just to see Christian Bale because I was going through my “Christian Bale Obsession” ever since I saw “Newsies.” Well, it finally came to the video store and of course, I was at the video store the day it arrived. I was determined to be the first one to get it! I brought it home and absolutely loved it. I watched it so many times that I lost count. I thought Christian was great, and so was Robert Sean Leonard, but there was a guy in this movie who I had never seen before. His name was Frank Whaley and I thought he was adorable as “Arvid.” I began renting some of his movies like “A Midnight Clear” and “Career Opportunities,” but I didn’t rent too many of them because although I thought he was a great actor, I was still in the middle of that obsession I told you about!

Not too long ago, I decided that I want to create a Fan Page, but couldn’t think of who I wanted it to be about. At first I chose Christian, but there were already so many wonderful sites for him and I just couldn’t compete. I went through a list of actors and actresses from Sandra Bullock to Kenneth Branagh, but I couldn’t decide if I should do a web page for them or not. Once again, I did not want to pick an actor who already had twenty web sites about them! The more web sites there are, the harder it is to be different and the more people you have to compete with. So I was almost ready to give up. Then, one day, I was watching “Swing Kids’ for what was probably the 200th time and all of a sudden it hit me! I saw Frank Whaley in a way I never had before. I still love Christian Bale, but the obsession is over, so I could finally see clearly enough to recognize the talent in Frank that I hadn’t recognized before. I went online and was expecting to see tons of web sites for him (since there were tons of sites for all of the other actors I thought of). I was shocked to only find a couple and while they were great, they weren’t very comprehensive. I didn’t know if I’d be able to create a site on Frank because to do that you need info and how can you find any info with only a couple of sites that don’t tell ya much? I was determined to do it anyway and that’s when I began my mission.

I surfed the web for hours, visiting not only those Frank Whaley sites, but also visiting sites such as, E! Entertainment Television, Entertainment Tonight, Sundance, and a few more. I downloaded every image I could possibly find and printed out all the information. My purpose was to create the most comprehensive site for Frank Whaley. Not only that, but it had to be a joy to visit. A site can be comprehensive, but that doesn’t mean it won’t be boring. I spent many more hours trying a variety of backgrounds (I wanted something non-distracting that wasn’t too dark, too light, or too bright). I then had to spend forever trying to decide what colors to use for items such as the title and the visited links. Since this site is for a male celebrity, I didn’t want it to look too feminine, which is why I use lots of reds, blues, and purples. I figure that those are more “manly” colors.

My purpose is still the same.....to make sure that Frank Whaley: An Unofficial Homepage remains a comprehensive site that has the most updated information on this talented guy. Another purpose of this site is to bring as much exposure as possible to Frank Whaley. I am determined to give him the recognition that he so highly deserves. I’m tired of seeing his co-stars get all the credit. I think Frank has the talent to go on and do great things in film and theater, and I want everyone to know that. Basically, what I am trying to say is…..LOOK OUT WORLD, HERE COMES FRANK WHALEY!
