Teachers' Idea Book: Using Computers with K-8 Students
by Charles Doe

Teachers' Idea Book is a collection of hundreds of ideas, tips, projects and helpful information, based on the work done by SchoolHouse Mac over the past eight years. TeachersÕ Idea Book is aimed at teachers in one computer classrooms but is helpful to anyone working with children and computers.

I began this project to develop as many specific, nuts and bolts ideas for using computers with children as possible. I looked for ideas which don't necessarily require access to the Internet, a computer lab, special software or multiple classroom computers.

The final collection can be used on nearly any computer in nearly any situation by experienced and inexperienced users alike. Many of the ideas can be adapted to most subjects or curriculums at most age levels. Teachers' Idea Book is most useful for first through eighth grade teachers, but contains ideas which can be used and/or adapted by pre-school, kindergarten and high school teachers as well.

Keyboard Tag by Charles Doe

.........painless ways to teach elementary school children how to keyboard well enough to write and use computers in other ways ..... without a lab.

Keyboard Tag contains lesson plans and materials designed to teach children how to keyboard well enough to use computers for writing and other purposes. The problem with using computers in classrooms with a single computer and/or with limited computer lab access, is that most children don't learn to type fast enough to make much writing with computers practical. Research has shown that three or four sessions can be enough to substantially improve student's keyboarding ability. Note that statement doesn't mean gaining full keyboarding skills. Rather students will substantially improve their overall speed at finding letters, numbers and special keys.
