GLENGARRY GENEALOGICAL SOCIETY/Alex. W. Fraser, Rhoda Ross
DONATION TO THE
American Family Records Association
OF GLENGARRY and AREA BOOKS,
local histories & genealogy.
From Bridging the Gap Volume 6 #5 September - December 1993, in part
Two of the titles were reviewed in the April 1993 issue of FAMILY RECORDS, TODAY, 7 in the July
1993 issue and 16 in the October 1993 issue, as indicated by the following letter on the listed
titles concerned; April RA; July RJ; October RO.[RA = reviewed April, RJ = reviewed July, RO =
Reviewed October]
On December 12th, 1993, the GLENGARRY GENEALOGICAL SOCIETY will celebrate its 19th anniversary.
Since it has always been my intention; since the impression being received is that many people
across North America are interested in the history of this area for a variety of reason, and since
it has likewise always been my hope that our published books could be made available to all through
INTERLIBRARY LOAN, this donation accomplishes that dream. Realizing that not everybody can afford
to purchase these books, it was decided that to honour our 19TH ANNIVERSARY, the GLENGARRY
GENEALOGICAL SOCIETY at the expense of the GGS would make this donation to the AMERICAN FAMILY
RECORDS ASSOCIATION, P. O. Box 15505, Kansas City, Missouri 64106 U.S.A. as a GIFT to the people of
GLENGARRY COUNTY and those individuals across North America interested in this area of eastern Ontario
and Western Quebec. As stated above these books as soon as they get processed will be available FREE
OF CHARGE on InterLibrary Loan across North America.
In 1989, I made a similar proposal to the two local library systems serving Glengarry, Stormont &
Dundas counties & the city of Cornwall, Ontario. I offered them 3 complete collections of the titles
at that time [1989] in print, published by HH/GGS. This was basically a collection for each of the
library systems plus a collection for the purpose of interlibrary loan. These three collections were
REFUSED OUTRIGHT. Thus when the above opportunity from the AMERICAN FAMILY RECORDS ASSOCIATION came
along, I welcomed it WE worked together to get these 93 area books, we, THE GLENGARRY GENEALOGICAL
SOCIETY has donated available across NORTH AMERICA, FREE ON INTERLIBRARY LOAN.
