Pegging To Win

How did he win that?!

This is a hand I played from a tournament in Virginia. It is one of the reasons I have learned to never give up on a close game.

2 of Diamonds 3 of Clubs 5 of Spades 6 of Diamonds   King of Diamonds

I am in hole 113 (8 points from going out) as the dealer, the pone is in hole 115 (6 from the win) I pick up my cards and have an unusual hand. I have 10, 10, 10, 10, J, 4. OK, I want you to know that YES I had just chalked this game up as a loss in my mind. So I throw the J 4 into the crib and start looking forward to the next game.

The Pone leads a K. Well a 10 after a K is actually a good play so I really don't mind making it. The Pone then plays a 4, and I of course have to say "GO". The Pone then puts down an Ace and 5, showing a diamond flush and pegs his "GO". There I sit with three 10's and no one to play against. OK, I play a 10, then pair it for 2, then treble it for 6, and the last card, total points pegged is 9 for the win. I think I learned with that hand to never give up. Everyone watching behind me thought I was crazy to keep the four 10's. The really funny thing is that on first street of that game the Pone had played three 10's for 9 points after I ran out of cards.
