Part 15

"Well, what happened? Is Michael all right?" Kat asked.

"No, I doubt it actually." Jenna replied, lowering her head.

"What?!?!?" Lynne, and Alison shouted in unison. Worried looks spread across everyone's faces, as they anxiously blurted out a dozen different questions at once.

"Where's Michael?"

"Has something happened to him?"

"Has he gotten worse?"

"Stop jumping to conclusions, would you please!!" Jenna finally spoke up.

"Come on Jenna, just tell us, what happened?" Gleeby said, loosing her patients.

"Mike's fine, it's just that...." Jenna turned to David for help.

"Well, Jenna told me that she and Mike were sitting in the master bedroom talking. And just when Mike was about to, uh, {clears throat} hug her. Phyllis walked in, and apparently flipped!" David shrugged, finishing for her. Micky, Peter, and the swoonies exchanged confused looks.

"Was that all that went on between the two of you?" Mimi asked, somewhat timidly.

"Of course that's all!! We hadn't even hugged yet!" Jenna responded. A sigh of relief was heard from everyone present. (excluding Jenna, of course.)

"Then you don't have anything to worry about, you're perfectly innocent." Christine said.

Peter suggested, "You'd be wise to let Michael and Phyllis work it out before you tried talking to them."

"Yeah. Mike will clear everything up for Phyllis. I'm sure it'll be fine." Micky added.

Meanwhile....

Phyllis walked back into their bed room, still rather pail. "Michael, what did she mean? Who should I be worried about?"

Mike sighed in frustration, "I haven't any idea what she meant by that, but..."

Phyllis interrupted him with, "Well, fine. However you've yet to explain what the two of you were doing before I walked in here. And how far you planned on going, for that matter." She said near tears.

"Oh for garden seed Phyllis. Nothing happened at all!!" He tried standing up, to no avail. Being so dizzy, he just fell back onto the bed.

Phyllis hurried over to him, "Michael...don't..." Seeing he was fine, she sat down next to him. Mike took a deep breath and continued.

"Jenna just came over to keep me company. We were talking when I thanked her for staying with me, I told her I appreciated it. I was just about to hug her, merely as a friend to friend, when you walked in. I understand how you could take that the wrong way, however, there's no need for you to be upset." Phyllis just sat there, looking him in the eyes.

After a long pause, she quietly said, "All right Michael, I believe you."

Back at Monterey....

After getting assurance from Peter, Micky, David, and the swoonies. Jenna's outlook on the situation was much brighter, although she was still very worried. They had all returned their attention to the performing splendor that was, The Mama's and Papa's, when Micky looked over and spotted Kit and Davy walking towards them.

"Look who's here!" He exclaimed. The two approached the group, hand in hand, smiling.

"I changed me mind, decided I wanted to come after all." Davy said.

"And I would never forgive myself if I missed this, leaving you guys to have all the fun." Kit grinned.

"Well, we're glad you guys came!" Kat said. As they were all exchanging quick hugs, Kit noticed Jenna.

"Hey, you made it after all! This is really working out!"

"How's Mike feeling, luv?" Davy asked. Jenna looked over at him and sighed, "Ooooh!" As she began crying again.

All the swoonies grimaced as Janine hopped over Jenna, and briskly led Davy and Kit away from the group. She explained the whole story to them as quickly, and quietly as possible. Their reaction was similar to that of the others, and they gave their condolenzes to Jenna.

Everyone turned toward the bandstand excitedly when they heard the beginning of, Monday Monday. David stood up, and held his hand out to Jenna.

"May I have this dance?" He asked. "It'd do you good to get your mind off of *things*." She looked at him rather surprised, but before she could answer he had pulled her up, and dragged her away from the group. Micky lit up, inspired by David, and whisked a reluctant Gleeby over to join the small cluster of dancing hippies. Keith glanced over at Mimi slyly, and she grinned rolling her eyes.

"Oh, all right, let's go!" She said, as she stood up and the two of them rushed over to join in the dancing.

Lynne was standing on the tips of her toes, trying to see over the crowd.

"This is such a drag, I'm going closer." She said.

"Lynne, if we go any further we'll be touching the bandstand!" Alison reasoned.

"Exactly!" Lynne exclaimed, smirking. Alison and Christine looked at each other grinning, then ran after Lynne, leaving the group behind.

"Cass is great, isn't she?" Janine sighed in admiration.

"I'll say, she has a wonderful singing voice." Calli agreed.

"And boy can she dance!" Kit replied, imitating Cass' frug.

"It'd be kick if we were able to meet her!" Kat remarked, almost joking.

Peter turned to the girls smiling, "I'm not promising anything, however I wi..." He stopped in mid sentence do to the gasps, and shrieks from the four remaining swoonies.

"Thank you, Peter!!" They said together, as their eyes all beamed in delight.

"Oh! I've got to go!" Kit declared.

"Why, luv?" Davy asked. "I left my Mama's and Papa's LP in your car. If we meet Cass, I'd like her to sign it."

"I'll come with you." Janine said. "Maybe I'll find something for Cass to sign, myself."

Kit and Janine rushed off in the direction of Davy's car, as he called after them to hurry back.

When he turned around, he caught eye of Calli, "Well, I don't believe we've been introduced." He said smiling.

"You're right, we haven't." Calli answered, turning to Kat.

"Davy, I'd like you to meet Calli. She's a good friend of ours, and she just joined us, so to speak. Calli, this is Davy." Kat grinned. They each said their, 'nice to meet you's'.

After which Davy asked, "Would you care to dance? To what's left of the song, that is." Calli grinned from ear to ear.

"I'd love to!"

"Great!" He replied, as the two walked off together.

Peter turned to Kat and said, "I'm a little worried about Lynne, Christine, and Alison, staying up at the bandstand alone. They may get trampled."

Kat patted him on the back, "You're a sweet heart." He started to walk away, and noticed Kat wasn't following.

"Aren't you coming?" He asked.

"Eventually, I wanted to wait for Kit and Janine, though." She said with a smile.

"But, then I'll be leaving you alone." He said, with a rather bemused expression.

"I'll be fine, what could happen?" She assured him. After which he made her promise she'd come find him as soon as Janine and Kit returned, before running up to the bandstand.

Kat was standing, alone, watching all that was going on around her. When a girl approached her asking, where she found the shirt that was tied around her waist.

Kat looked down a little puzzled, "Oh! I'd forgotten I was still wearing this."

"Is it yours?" The girl asked.

"No, Peter gave it to me so tha..." Kat clasped her hands over her mouth, realizing what she was saying. But it was too late.

"I knew it!!" The girl screamed for her friends to come over, for she'd found who caught Peter Tork's shirt!!

A herd of girls ran towards Kat, vicious looks in their eyes, that were all centered on Peter's shirt. Kat franticly untied the knot, gripped the shirt firmly and folded her arms in front of her chest. Then dropped to her knees, and curled up on the ground, just as the girls had circled around her. They tried grabbing the shirt away from her, but she was not letting go. It was utter chaos for the next few moments, Kat was rather smothered, and feeling very faint. Just then she felt a gentle tapping on her shoulder, looking up she saw Peter!! 'Twas, indeed, a very welcoming sight. Tipped off by Janine and Kit, (who had witnessed the whole scene) Peter crawled between the girls, completely undetected, in an attempt to reach Kat.

He scooped her up as he stood, and the girls all jumped back in shock. Whispering amongst themselves, for none of them knew how he'd gotten by them.

He stood still, holding Kat, smiling, then asked very politely, "Would you mind letting me by? I'd like to get this young lady to some fresh air." They all nodded, and parted down the middle. Still very surprised that Peter was able to slip by them. He thanked them, and carried Kat over to a very worried, yet relieved, Kit and Janine.
