Part 17

The next morning, the swoonies were promptly awoken by loud banging sounds. They jumped up in fright, but then realised it was a drum soundcheck. Well almost all the swoonies had be awoken…Gleeby was still asleep.

"Geez, she really can sleep through anything!" Alison said. "But how will we wake her up?? The Who is going on soon, and she'll kill us if she misses it!" The other eight swoonies did everything they could think of to wake her, but nothing worked.

"Wha' you girls doin'?" Keith said, walking up and putting an arm around Mimi's waist. He was followed by three familiar looking guys…Pete Townshend, John Entwistle, and a fringe clad Roger Daltrey.

"We're trying to wake Gleeby up, but it's impossible." Christine said.

"Is tha' 'er?" Roger asked, pointing to Gleeby. The other swoonies nodded. Roger grinned devilishly. "I think I know a way of getting' 'er up." Roger leaned down and scooped Gleeby up in his arms, and carried her to a spot right in front of the stage. The swoonies and Who members followed curiously.

"It didn't work!" Janine said impatientely. Roger grinned again.

"Oh really? I 'aven't finished with 'er yet. Make sure she stays right 'ere." He said, still grinning. He walked up on to the stage with the other members of the Who, and they waited for the introduction from Eric Burden, of the Animals.

"I promise you this group will destroy you in more ways than one," Eric said, as the girls watched attentivly.

"I wonder where Davy is." Kit whispered to Calli, who shrugged in reply.

"Ssssshhhhh!!!" Mimi said "The Who is about to play!" Keith winked at Mimi, and the Who launched into 'Substitute'. That woke Gleeby up instantly, because Roger had placed her right next to the largest amp.

"What the…?!?!?!" she exclaimed, now wide awake. She looked up, and saw Roger singing only inches away from her as he tried not to laugh at her startled expression. "Guys, I almost missed the Who! Why didn't anyone wake me up???" she asked innocently.

"We tried a million times!!" Christine said.

"Yeah…then Roger came over, picked you up, and dropped you off right next to the speaker so the music would wake you up. Looks like it worked." Calli said.

"Roger picked me up?!?!?" Gleeby exclaimed. "And I missed it?!?!?!"

"Well that's what you get for sleeping in." Jenna said giggling. She turned around, and her eyes opened wide. "MIKE!" she said happily, throwing her arms around his neck.

"Nice to see you too." He chuckled, returning her hug.

"What are you doing here? You're supposed to be in bed!" Kat said concernedly.

"Yeah, what are you doing here?" Alison said.

"Well I was feelin' a little better…besides, I hear this Hendrix guy is goin' on soon, and I don't want to miss 'im." He drawled.

"Where are the others?" Janine asked, anxious to see Peter.

"They'll be along in a minute, they wanted to get some coffee." He replied. "Hey, what's with her?" he asked, pointing to Mimi. She was standing right next to the stage, entranced by Keith as the Who began 'Happy Jack'.

"She's really into them," Kit explained "and it looks as though she's not alone." She said, gesturing towards Gleeby who was watching Roger intently.

"'ello luvs!" Davy said, approaching Calli and Kit. Micky and Peter followed close behind. The swoonies all greeted the three Monkees hapily, except for Mimi and Gleeby who hadn't moved from their spots right in front of the stage.

"Hi Gleebs." Micky said. Gleeby didn't even hear him. "Gleebs? Gleeby?"

"She can't hear you, the singer is singing to her." Lynne informed him.

"The Who?" Micky asked.

"Yeah.." Jenna said.

"Who?" Micky asked again.

"Yes, Roger from the Who." Alison said exasperatedly.

"The Who?" Micky asked.

"Yes, the Who!" Christine said, getting annoyed.

"And I'm supposed to be the dumb one." Peter said, shaking his head. The swoonies all burst into laughter.

"This is where it all ends," said Pete Townshend to the audience. The Who broke into the opening chords of 'My Generation', and Gleeby and Mimi were in heaven.

"Why don't you all just f-f-f-f-f-f-aaaade away." Roger sang. Gleeby sighed at the sound of his stuttering. Suddenly her trance was broken by the sight of Pete smashing his guitar. Then Keith shoved his drums onto the floor.

"Whoaaaaaaoww-roog-a-later!" Mimi yelled out as the Who left that stage. Mike's fact lit up.

"Hey, that was groovey!" Mike said, trying to repeat the sound Mimi had made.

"Almost time, girls." Peter said, winking at them. Their faces lit up in excitement.

"Wow, we just saw the Who!!" Mimi said happily to Gleeby.

"Who?" Micky asked.
