Part 2

The nine swoonies just stood there in the street for a moment, totally stunned. Finally, Kat spoke up.

"What's going on?" she asked softly. They looked around again. People were starting to stare at them, especially at Janine, who was wearing wide leg jeans and a black hooded sweatshirt.

"I, I don't know." Mimi stammered. "It's almost like we…"

"Went back in time." Kit finished her sentence. Mimi nodded.

"That's impossible!" Lynne said skepticly. "This must be some kind of joke or something." She said, gesturing towards the record shoppe's window. Gleeby shook her head.

"I don't think so…there's definitely something weird going on." She said. She looked around again, and then spotted a friendly looking hippie. "Excuse me," she said, walking up to him. "can you tell me what year it is?" He looked at her like she was crackers.

"Are you kiddin' baby? It's 1967!" he answered, looking extremely confused.

"Thank you." She said, leaving him dumbfounded on the sidewalk. She walked back over to her friends.

"You're picking up guys? At a time like this?" Christine asked.

"I just asked him what year it was." Gleeby said, rolling her eyes. Jenna started giggling.

"You asked him what year it was? Are you stark raving mad or something?" she asked. Gleeby ignored her.

"He said it was 1967." She answered.

"WHAT?!?!" shouted Alison. "1967?!?! You MUST be joking!" Gleeby shook her head.

"Well what are we going to do?" Kat asked.

"I'll tell ya what we're gonna do," Janine said "we're gonna, we're gonna, ….I don't know what we're gonna do, but it's gonna be good! I mean, it's 1967! We can go to places that don't exist now…OH MY BUDDHA! WE CAN MEET THE MONKEES!!!!" she yelled.

"AHHHH!!!!!" the other 8 swoonies screamed in unison. They started jumping up and down and giggling, until they realised they had attracted a crowd.

"Come on, let's go somewhere where we can think about this for a minute." Kit said. They walked over to a restaurant across the street.

"A restaurant?? But I just ate!" Lynne said. "Do you think the have fruit coolatas?" she asked. Her eight friends started laughing out loud.

They walked into the restaurant, and sat down in a long booth. Alison sat at the head of the table. A gum-chewing waitress came over to take their order. Her hair was tied up in fishnet, and she was cracking her gum loudly.

"So girls, whaddya want ta' eat?" she asked. Gleeby and Lynne tried hard to hold back laughter; it was obvious this waitress from New England.

"We'll have two large pizzas, and a pitcher of soda." Mimi said, taking charge. The swoonies all nodded in agreement.

"Alright, I'll be right back with ya' drinks." The waitress said. As soon as she was out of earshot, Jenna spoke up.

"Guys, what are we gonna do? How are we gonna get home?" she asked worriedly.

"Get home? Hu-HU!" Gleeby said. "Man, who wants to go home? This is great!" she exclaimed.

"I realise how totally gret3l this is," Christine said "but we can't stay here…I mean, it would totally mess things up!" Jenna and Alison nodded.

"I know, I know…but there must be a reason we're here. I mean, we couldn't have just gotten sent here for nuthin'." Kat said.

"She has a point." Janine said. Gleeby and Mimi nodded. "There has to be a reason we're here…"

"Sort of like Quantum Leap, right?" Christine asked.

"Yeah, except we didn't leap into someone's body." Lynne said jokingly.

"How are we supposed to know what we have to do? If we have to do anything at all?" Kit asked.

"I don't know, but let's just enjoy our stay! I for one, am quite happy to be here." Janine said. The waitress came back with their sodas, and told them their pizzas would be ready soon. Christine swiped a newspaper from the empty table behind them, and started to read it. She noticed the date; June 3, 1967, and shook her head in disbelief.

"What's the date Christine?" asked Kat.

"June third, 1967;" Christine answered "and I still can't believe we're here." She browsed through the articles while she ate her pizza, which had just arrived. Just then, something caught her eye. "Hey guys…" she began.

"What is it?" Jenna asked, ripping the paper out of Christine's hands. "Oh my…" she said.

"What? Will you just read it to us already?!?" Gleeby asked, getting impatient. She grabbed the paper out of Jenna's hands, and began to read aloud. "Help wanted: Seeking nine young women to play a small part on a popular television series, please call this number if interested; 555-9867."

"So, what's so great about THAT?" Lynne asked.

"The phone number…" Kit said. "9867…we went from 1998 to 1967, it's just a little odd, that's all."

"Kit, they want 9 girls! There are exactly nine of us!" Mimi said. Everyone sat silently for a moment, then Janine walked over to the phone. She dialed the number 555-9867, and waited for an answer.

"Hello?" a male voice on the other end said.

"Hi…my friends and I read your ad in the paper, and we're interested in appearing on the show…we just have one little question." Janine said cheerfully.

"Oh that's great! We hadn't gotten any calls about that ad yet. What's your question?" the man said.

"What television programme would we be appearing on?" She asked calmly, trying not to get her hopes up. She looked over at the table; all eyes were on her.

"That would be the Monkees, we need nine young women to play harem girls in an episode called 'Everywhere a Sheik, Sheik'…are you still interested?" he said. Janine's jaw dropped, she couldn't even breathe. "Hello?" the man said. "hello?"

"Yes! We're DEFINITELY interested! If you give us the address, we'll be right over." She said, barely able to contain her excitement. She wrote down the address he gave her and hung up the phone. She looked over at her friends; they would never believe it!

"So what was it?" Alison asked. Janine didn't say anything, she couldn't talk.

"Spit it out!" Christine said.

"Yeah, come on, tell us." Lynne said.

"We're going to have parts on a television show…" Janine began.

"What show?" Gleeby asked, already anticipating the answer. "If it's even…" Janine nodded. Gleeby's jaw dropped, and so did the other seven swoonies'.

"If you're even joking…" Kat said. Janine shook her head.

"He said the parts are for nine young women to play…harem girls, in 'Everywhere a Sheik, Sheik'." She said, still in shock. Kit screamed.

"You mean I get to see Davy's juicy hindquarters up close?!?!" she shouted. Jenna nodded, and visions of Mike in her head. Mimi thought she would collapse if she didn't sit down right away. Lynne had the same problem, and Gleeby was practically hyperventilating. They all sat down for a moment to let it sink in: THEY WERE GOING TO BE ON THE MONKEES! They paid the waitress, and left the restaurant.

They were on their way to the set of the Monkees television series.
