Born in Dublin, Ireland, in 1784. Married Sarah Simpson at Beverely, Yorkshire, in 1808. She died in 1822. They had two sons: Thomas Walker Higgins (2nd Dragoons, Scots Greys 1831-39. Emigrated to South Australia) and William George Higgins (Madras European Volunteer Artillery 1831-69. He remained in India).
His wife's grave, Donacaster, Yorkshire -
"Sacred to the memory of Sarah Higgins, wife of Lieut. Thomas Higgins late of the 5th Regt. of Foot who lost his life in the service of his country at the Battle of Vittoria in 1813. She departed this life the 15 July 1822 aged 30 years. She is gone to you whom she loved in that world where ... is never known and ... "

"Underneath is deposited the body of Major General Hoghton of His Britannic Majesty's Service who fell in the Battle of Albuhera on the 16 of May 1811 at the head of his Brigade."

Lieutenant Francis Ralph Thomas Holbourne - 3rd Foot Guards - wounded near Bayonne, 14th April 1814. died - 23rd April 1814
Son of Sir Francis Holbourne. Memorial  at  Bayonne (?) - "Sacred to the memory of Francis R.T. Holburne, Captain and Adjutant of 3rd Regiment of Foot Guards, eldest son of Sir Francis Holburne, Bart. who was severely wounded while gallantly leading his men against a sortie made by the French from Bayonne, April 14 1814 and died of his wounds April 23 1814. He lies buried in this cemetery. His loss was greatly deplored by his afflicted family, and all who knew him. This monument is erected as a tribute of affection by his only surviving sister."
