The Language of the Thracians, Ivan Duridanov

II. The Thracian language and the Indo-European family of languages

The Thracian language is part of the Indo-European family of languages. In the past it was regarded that Thracian together with the Phrygian and other vanished languages belonged to the Iranian branch of the Indo-European languages. This mistake was corrected in the 80’s of the last century, but the ambiguities still persisted: the Thracian was combined in one group with the Phrygian (P. Kretschmer), and later – with the Illyrian (the language, spoken in the modern Dalmatia and Albania).
