"Mrs Roger Fleury, Sr., of Auburn Street has received a letter from her son, Corp. Roger Fleury, who is now in a base hospital in France. He was with the 23rd Infantry and was wounded in June during an attack near Chateau Thierry. His letter in part reads as follows:- "Dear Mother: I am just writing to tell you how I am getting along. My leg is getting along fine and I hope to be out of the hospital soon. My captain was wounded in the same fight that I was in. We got the Germans on the run and hope to keep them going. Have you heard if any of the B Battery boys have been killed yet? I haven't seen any of the boys for a long while. I was on the Front Line last March and did not get away from there until Iwas wounded. How is everything in Stoneville? I guess there are not many othe boys left since I hear they are going to draft all from 18 to 35 years of age. Well, I think they do not need to. Mother, tell alice and Martin that I am well and that I will be home soon to eat some of Alice's home-made candy. Your loving Son, Roger I. Fleury, I Co., 2nd U.S. Infantry, A.E.F., France."
