Gertrude Foster met Nelson Beull Certain in 1905 at Stevenson's Grocery
Store in Garnett, Kansas. Nelson was a clerk there and first noticed
Gertrude as she came along with her parents Polly and Harvey Foster
when they drove into town for groceries. Nelson was a timid guy, but
eventually he and Gertrude became good friends. When they began to
court seriously, Nelson contributed to Gertrude's hope chest items by
slipping pieces of china from the store into her sugar sack. They
were married on Sunday morning, May 12, 1907 at the Methodist Church
in Garnett, Kansas by the Reverend Bailey, and moved into their first
home at East Second Street in Garnett, Kansas.
