Hagerstown REACT
Team C-22

Hagerstown REACT (Radio Emergency Associated Communications Team) is a volunteer, nonprofit, public service organization dedicated to helping individuals and other nonprofit organizations.

The original objective of REACT, and one that continues today after more than 35 years of service, is to monitor Channel 9 on the Citizens Band radio for motorist assistance such as accidents, disabled vehicles, or travel directions. REACT members can not be everywhere at all times, but we strive to listen and respond whenever possible to assist others by providing local information, directions, and phone calls for your assistance.

Hagerstown REACT holds several Safety Breaks each year on selected holiday weekends. Safety Breaks are designed to encourage motorists to take a break from long periods of driving in an effort to help prevent accidents. Accident rates are normally higher during holiday weekends because of higher travel and longer distances being traveled, leading to more tired drivers on the road. We are set up at the Greencastle, Pennsylvania Tourism Center on Interstate 81 just north of the Maryland state line where we provide free coffee, cold drinks, cookies and helpful information concerning the area.

We also provide communications assistance to organizations for their community events such as the March of Dimes Walk America, JFK 50-Mile Hike/Run, Antietam Battlefield/Maryland Symphony Orchestra Annual Salute to Independence, Antietam Battlefield Memorial Illumination, C&O Canal Days (Arts & Crafts Festival), and the Breast Cancer Awareness Walk.

Volunteers are always needed to ensure everyone gets help when needed.

Every emergency call on CB Channel 9 requires a person to answer their call and see that help is on the way.

A little bit of time at a Safety Break can help ensure that families traveling along the highway will arrive home safe.

Assisting other nonprofit organizations can help the public enjoy the event and be safe.

All REACT members receive the REACTer Magazine and authorized ID materials. Members can also receive discounts on car rentals, hotels, K40 Electronics and more.

Since 1962, REACT has been the leader in public service radio. We have earned the U.S. Presidential Volunteer Action Award. Now you can be part of our prestigious international organization. For more information on how to join REACT contact us at the addresses below or call (301) 790-2638.
