The Colour Out of Space
This story is one of the best examples of Lovecraft's work, and
definitely my favorite. It tells the story of an asteroid that crashes
in a New England family's property and the aweful horror that ensues.
This story is remarkable for two reasons: the prose and the
monster. This story is written in such a poetic manner that
it draws you in and doesn't let you go until its startling
climax. The descriptions of the colour's victims are
particularly disturbing and inventive. The monster(?)
in this story is another high point. The story raises many
questions about this so-called creature. What is it there for?
Is it alive? What, if any, are its intentions. The way
Lovecraft questions its motives is similar to parts of his short novel At the Mountains of Madness.
