To request data on new and rare plants
  1. This is service is only available to New Ornamentals Society members in good standing. YOU MUST INCLUDE YOUR MEMBERSHIP NUMBER OR CODE OR YOUR REQUEST CANNOT BE PROCESSED. If you have misplaced your number contact the society and another copy of it will be sent to your subscription address.
  2. Indicate the full Latin name of the plant (ie. Plantus vulgaris 'Another Red One')
  3. Include all the types of data (ie. NOD fields) you need. These usually include such things as: habit description, foliage color, cold hardiness, history/origin, literature references, patent/trademark data, distinctive features from another taxon, leaf dimensions, fruit color, petal count, etc. Be specific if you can. If you state "ALL DATA" the request will include a general sentence such as "description, history, literature, source".
  4. Indicate your own interest in the plant such as NOS PLANTUS STUDY GROUP member, grower, graduate student studying topic X, collector, author of forth- coming book, Plantus Society member, curator at Garden Y, hybridizer of group, doing propagation studies, geneticist, doing monograph of genus, etc. Sometimes our society files contain other information not in the current NOD files that may be of help to you. We'll include that as well.
  5. Include any corrections or additions you'd recommend for any NOD file listings for this plant. Even a single measurement or small adjective suggestion will make the file more useful for thousands of other users around the world.
  6. Does a plant society or NOS STUDY GROUP exist for this genus? If not, do you believe there is sufficient information in starting one with their own web page? Would you be willing to help form it?
  7. Please submit no more than 5 plant names per request. We are expecting a large initial request for this service but hope to expand it in future months.
  8. Please include each printed request on a separate sheet of paper since we may forward them to different parties.
  9. Submit via email or regular mail to the addresses above.
  10. Please be very patient. This is still a fairly new site and it may take some time before a knowledgeable person sees your listing. Sometimes they'll be willing to write or call before getting back to you and that may take more time. Plant people are so wonderfully helpful!
