Stereotypes:

* Schemas or beliefs about the characteristics ascribed to a group
of people based on qualities such as race, ethnicity or gender
rather than achievements or actions.

* Often inaccurate and frequently portray the members of the less
powerful, less controlling groups more negatively than members of
more powerful or controlling groups.

* Lead to serious negative consequences.
Example: Discrimination carried out against blacks in the U.S. & S.Africa.

Development of Stereotypes


Prejudice:

* Judging people based on negative stereotypes, which is an unfair,
biased or intolerant attitude.

Discrimination:

* Unfair behaviours exhibited to other members in a group.
