Body Language of the horse

You can learn a lot just by observing how horse interact
with each other by taking a little time each day
and setting and watching horses in their every day life.
How a dominate or alpha horse and how they react
to the other horses. This is a good way to learn the
language that they use every day of their life to
communicate with other horse and you might say how to
get their point across that the other horse has stepped
out of line and how they reprimand that horse that gets
out of line.
A flick of an ear , swish of a tail, stomp of a foot,
pinching of the nose, pining of ears, each one of these
can have up to 5-10 deferent meanings.
I guess i will start and break down each of these's
to give you an Idea of some of the meanings for each.
A lot depends on the exact time it was used and under
the conditions it was used toward other horses.
The flick of an ear. We all know that horse have good
hearing and they use their hearing all the time it goes
back to being alert for predators.
Listening to their surroundings. Keeping the pesky flies
at bay.
listening to the approach of other horses coming up behind
them while they are standing, grazing. or snoozing .
The ear is very good way to watch a horse for his moods.
whether it is a relaxed mood (kinda droopy look to the ear)
turned back but not penned to the head is a sing of listening
to its owner when either brushing or while you are riding.
Straight forward is alert could be something has got it's
attention. or he has heard something and is listening to see
if he can recunize the sound or he should take flight.
Turned to the side head tilted so ear on that side is down
a little he /she is not for sure of a object in the ring or
on the trail and if that thing should make a threatening sound
or move meant he is bound to shy away from it. Better just
to have one ear trained on it to make sure nothing is wrong.
Swish of a tail can also mean deferent things, like pesky flies,
up set while riding. A warning to another horse. an invitation
to a stallion form a mare in heat.
Stomping of the feet. Getting the flies off. a warning
to other horses. Letting you know they are up set that you
 have confused
them they don't understand the cue that your are giving
them.
Or flopping a fit cause they don't want to do something you
are giving a cue to do.
Putting the stomp of a back foot and the swish of the tail,
pining of the ears pinched nose to together while eating or
grazing is a warning to another horse, you are to close I'm
warning you to stay away or I might kick you if you come any
closer this is my grain/grass go find your own, or this is my
person stay away .
Pinching of the nose along with ears back but not penned a
horse
that is not happy at all and could turn nasty is another
warning
to other horse or people.
I hope that i have explained some of the body language and
themost common that horses use every day. If you have any
questions on something I haven't covered let me know all i
ask is you tell me what the horse was doing at the time
he was doing what he was doing that way I will get a better
idea on what was happening around him or what you were doing
at the time he did something.
