3\31 Veterans continue to cycle in and out of the lineup and young players such as Jason 
Williams and Jesse Wallin are getting powerplay and penalty kill time. Doesn't effect the 
results though, Wings beat Atlanta 4-1. Scoring were Hull(2), Dandenault, and Williams. Igor
Larionov added three assists. Jiri Slegr assisted on the first Hull goal for his first point 
with Detroit. Manny Legace got his first win since January. Next up: Toronto at the Joe on 
Monday night.

3\29 Same thing, Wings salvage a 3-3 tie with the Predleys. Scoring were Hull, Draper, and 
Shanahan. Next up: Atlanta at the Joe on Saturday.
  With the point in this game, the Wings clinched the President's Trophy.

3\26 The Wings salvaged a 3-3 tie in Nashville after Shanny tied it up in the closing minutes. 
Also scoring were Fedorov and Williams. Larionov, Chelios, and Hasek(minor back injury) all got 
the night off. Next up: Nashville at the Joe on Thursday.
  The Wings will add Ladislav Kohn to their roster this week, giving them some depth at forward. 
Kohn tried out for the Wings during the exhibition season. They signed him, and he went to 
Finland. His team, Espoo, was eliminated Sunday. Because of an AHL bylaw that forbids players to
come over from Europe past a certain date, Holland said, Kohn cannot be sent to Cincinnati.(Freep)
Since the Wings have clinched all but the Presidents' Trophy, which should happen this week, I 
think it's safe to say that many veterans will get nights off to rest up for the playoffs. It's a 
good bet that Nick Lidstrom will stay in Detroit during next weeks west coast swing.

3\23 The rivalry continues. After Brendan Shanahan fired in his 500th career goal, Patrick Roy 
came unwound. It went something like this. Marty Skoula pushed Kirk Maltby into the Colorado net 
and Roy went ape shit. He started pounding Maltby while on top of him. Then the gloves came off.
All ten skaters squared off. Dominic Hasek skated in from the other end, throwing off his gloves
on the way down. He goes after Roy, but trips over a stick before he gets there. Before he can 
get to Roy the officials have a hold on both goalies. Sean Avery badly beats Pascal Trepanier 
until his face is a bloody mess. Later in the period, Mike Keane takes a run at Hasek and Chris 
Chelios responded. Every time Keane got to his feet, Chelli cross checked him back down again. 
The official raises his arm, and Chelli still didn't stop. After all was said and done, Chelli 
racked up 16 penalty minutes that put Colorado on the power play for the remainin 4 minutes of 
the game. It did the Avs no good however. Hasek got his 61st shutout and is the leader in that 
catagory among active net minders, passing, you guessed it, Patrick Roy. Brett Hull scored the 
other goal and the Wings win it 2-0. This win cliches the Western Confence first seed in the 
playoffs. Any combination of two Detroit wins\Philly losses will wrap up the President's Trophy.
Next up: a home and home with the Predleys begining Monday night in Nashville.

3\23 With Friday's results, the Wings have clinched the Central Division. With a win in Colorado 
today they will clinch the Western Conference. With eight total points they will win the 
President's Trophy.

3\22 Sergei Fedorov tied it up late, then put in the OT goal to lead the Wings past Columbus 
3-2. Also scoring was Maltby. Next up: at Colorado Saturday.
  Oh yeah, I almost forgot. About a week ago the Wings locked up a playoff spot. They currently 
have 106 points. Colorado is second in the West with 88 points. Boston is tops in the East, also 
with 88 points.

3\20 The Wings got dogged by the Ducks 2-1. Scoring was Hull. Next up: at Columbus Thursday.

3\19 It's trade deadline day and the Wings made only one move. They picked up defenseman Jiri 
Slegr from Atlanta for Yuri Butsayev and a draft pick. 
   Steve Yzerman will be out at least until early April with his knee ailment.
   A 13 year old girl died today after getting hit with a puck during Saturday's Calgary 
Flames at Columbus Blue Jackets game. I was at the game and saw the girl standing with a 
jacket over her head to aparently stop the bleeding. I thought she walked out with the medics.
This is the first time a fan has died from a puck in the NHL. It has happened a few times in 
minor league games where the glass is lower.

3\17 Another tight game, this time the Wings win 5-3 in New York. Scoring were Chelios, Hull, 
Fischer, McCarty, and Fedorov(en). Next up: Anaheim at the Joe on Tuesday.

3\16 It was a tight game in Boston and the Wings lose 2-1. Kris Draper scored his 13th of the 
year, tying a career high. Sergei Fedorov notched his 500th assist. Shanny is still stuck on 
499 goals. Next up: tomarrow at the Rangers.

3\14 The Wings blew a 2-0 lead but managed an overtime win 4-3 over Edmonton. Scoring were 
Lidstrom(2), Williams, and Chelios(game winner, believe it or not, it's his first ever OT goal 
in his 19 year career.) Igor Larionov assisted on all four goals. Luc Robitaille had an assist. 
It was his 1,282nd point, moving him past Alex Delvecchio into 22nd place all-time.

  Steve Yzerman is right on schedule and should return next week. Darren McCarty should return
this weekend (finger.)

3\13 Fox Sports Net has acquired all local television rights for Red Wings' games starting with 
the 2003-04 season, which will end Channel 50's long history of televising the hockey team. 
Under the new arrangement, Fox Sports Net would get 74 games plus two rounds of the playoffs. 
The Red Wings have been with channel 50 since it went on the air in 1965. The Wings draw the 
highest ratings of any programming on the cable channel and the highest ratings of any United 
States-based NHL team. This season's average rating is 7.6, a 95 percent increase from last 
season at the same point. 

3\10 After a miserable trip from St. Louis to Buffalo that stranded the team in Cleveland last 
night, the Wings didn't have much left, losing to Buffalo 5-1. Scoring was Datsyuk. There were
lots of fights and scrums in this one. Next up: Edmonton at the Joe on Wednesday.

3\9 Luc Robitaille lead the way with two goals as the Wings smack the Blues 5-2. Also scoring 
were Holmstrom, Fedorov, and Datsyuk(en). Next up: at Buffalo tomarrow.
  With today's win at St. Louis, the Wings reach 100 points for the seventh time in the past 
nine full seasons; tie the club record with their seventh straight road victory; and extend 
their overall winning streak to eight games, one short of tying the club record. (Freep)
  Rookie Sean Avery found his car keys wrapped in a large ball of tape Tuesday. He said he 
needed an hour to get them out. "I've been investigating," Avery said. "I've narrowed it down 
to a few suspects." Thursday and again Friday, a newspaper picture of Avery was stuck on 
captain Steve Yzerman's nameplate. Avery scored his first NHL goal Saturday at Pittsburgh and 
his second Wednesday night against Toronto.

3\7  The Wings pounded the Maple Leafs 6-2. Scoring were Fedorov(2), Larionov, Robitaille,
Williams(1st career), and Avery. Next up: at St. Louis on Saturday.
  Darren Pang of ESPN reported last night that he spoke to Dino and he still may sign with 
Detroit. The trade deadline and roster freeze are March 19th at 3PM.

3\6 More on Dino; it doesn't appear Detroit is interested in resigning him. First of all they 
are putting Doug Brown first on their "comeback list," which is fine. I like Dougie and he 
deserves a shot. Also, if Dino were to sign with the Wings they would want him to prove himself
in the minors, which I think is a slap in the face. With Brent Gilchrist now gone, there's no 
reason they couldn't sign both for cheap and scratch them until injuries abound. Having Dino 
last year in the playoffs may have turned the tables enough on the Kings to allow the Wings to 
rebound and win the series. 

3\2 Brendan Shanahan and Boyd Devereaux scored in the second period and the Detroit Red Wings 
won their sixth in a row, holding the Pittsburgh Penguins to one shot in the first period of a 
4-2 victory Saturday. Sean Avery netted his first NHL goal and the game winner and Nick Lidstrom 
finished of the Detroit scoring with an empty netter. Brendan Shanahan sits at 499 career goals.

3\1 Rumors out of Sarnia, Ontario say that former Red Wings RW Dino Ciccarelli, 42, is coming 
back to the NHL. Dino worked out with the Wings during a mini camp they held in Florida for non-
olympians and excelled. He recently had some bone spurrs removed from his hip which caused his 
retirement from the Florida Panthers in 1998. He says he's skating pain free for the first time 
in years. A few teams have already reportedly contacted Dino's agent. Hopefully the Wings will 
be one of them. Dino is my all time favorite player. He finished his NHL career with 608 goals,
592 assists and 1200 points.
