News from October 1998

10\30 The Wings lost a very defensive game at St. Louis 3-1. The score was 1-1 most of the
game until a penalty shot put the Blues up and an empty netter was added. Dougie Brown had
the lone Wing goal. Next up: at Dallas 8PM EST.

10\28 The Wings squashed the Panthers 7-2. Scoring were Holmstrom(2), Fedorov, McCarty, Yzerman,
Maltby, and Lidstrom. Next up: at St. Louis on Thursday 8PM EST, ESPN2.

10\24 Chris Osgood gets his 22nd career shutout (2nd of the year) as the Wings blank the Habs
3-0. Scoring were Yzerman, Murphy, and LaPointe. Next up: at Florida on Wednesday (UPN 50.)

10\24 Yan Golubovsky and Stacy Roest apparently will be back with the Wings shortly. Their
short reunion tour in Adirondack was only for the weekend.

10\23 The Wings fall to Toronto again 5-3. Scoring were Shanny, Larionov, and LaPointe (his
50th career.) Next up: at Montreal Saturday night.

10\23 Denny Lambert, the punk from Nashville who tried to beat Maltby with his stick several
times has been fined $1000 and suspended 4 games. That makes me happy. Also, Stacy Roest
and Yan Goblovski were returned to Adirondack, the reason being a lack of playing time.

10\21 The Wings beat Nashville 5-2 in the first of many meetings of these two teams. Scoring
were McCarty (2), Brown (2), and Shanny. This looks like it could turn into quite a rivalry
with the teams in the same division now and all the scrums that occured tonight. Next up:
Toronto at the Joe Friday night.

10\20 Brent Gilchrist skated in practice today, but is a long way from returning. Brendan
Shanahan's 5 goals in 4 games made him the player of the week.

10\19 Scotty Bowman will return to coach, beginning Friday.

10\18 The Wings beat Calgary 2-0. Scoring were Dandenault and Shanny.
Next up: Nashville on Wedsnesday at 7:30 EST.

10\17 The Wings crushed the Blues 4-1 in the home opener. Scoring were Fedorov and the
magnificent Shanahan with the hat trick. Next up: Calgary Sunday 3PM at the Joe.

10\14 The Wings beat the Caps 3-2. Scoring was McCarty, Shanny, and Brown. Next up: St. Louis,
and the banner raising on Friday 8PM at the Joe.

10\13 It looks like Jamie Macoun may play tonight at Washington (7:30 EST on ESPN and Detroit 50)

10\10 The Wings lost at Toronto 2-1. Larry Murphy had the lone goal. This was the last game
the Wings will play at Maple Leaf Gardens. Next up: at Washington on Tuesday.

10\9 The guy the Wings picked up was defenseman Doug Houda. They signed him to Adirondack.

10\9 It's 4 PM, and I heard a blurb about the Wings picking up a former Red Wing for future
consideration from the Ducks, all I missed was the name! I'll update as soon as I know more.

10\8 The Wings have trimmed their roster to 24, including 3 goalies - for now. Stacy Roest and
Yan Goblovski are the newest Wings. Darryl Laplante and defenseman Maxim Kuznetsov were sent to
Adirondack. One of the papers is reporting that Gilchrist will likely be out until December.
Visit The Detroit News, they have a lot of stuff about the Wings, as well as some previews of
the upcoming season.

10\6 Brent Gilchrist pulled a Dougie Brown, as he was selected by Tampa Bay in the waiver draft
and traded back to the Wings for a 6th round pick in June. Very cool.

10\5 The Wings dropped last night to the Caps 4-3. Stacy Roest scores again. I sure hope they
make room for this guy on the roster. Next up: at Toronto on Saturday.

10\5 Waiver draft started today, and so far Gilchrist is still ours. Also, looks like Macoun,
McCarty, and Gilchrist are all likely to be skating this week. Last exibition game is tonight
vs. Washington at the Joe.

10\3 The Wings lost to the Flyers 3-2. Krupp and Roest scored the goals. Also, McCarty's knee
injury is only a bruised bone, but he's expected to be out for at least a week. I checked out
the unprotected list for Monday's waiver draft. Brent Gilchrist and left winger Barry Potomski
were unprotected by the Wings.

10\2 The WIngs lost to the Flyers last night 4-2. Darren McCarty went out with a knee injury,
and no test results have been released yet.

10\1 Just heard that Mike Knuble was traded. He went to the Rangers for a 3rd round pick in
2000.

10\1 The Wings beat the Rangers last night 2-1 on goals by Brown and Kozlov. The game was
played without the red line, an experiment by the league this exibition season in hopes of
opening up scoring in the game. Protected lists are due from all NHL teams tonight. Still
looks like Kocur and Gilchrist will be left unprotected. The waiver draft is an Monday.
Petr Klima has reportedly showed no interest in playing with Adirondack. And finally, Toronto
is apparently showing interest in Kevin Hodson. Tonights game is at the Joe vs. Philly. WJR
has the color at 7:30.
