10\31 Everybody go to www.Zamboni.com and vote for Al Sobotka (the Wings' Zamboni driver) to drive the Zamboni at next year's All-Star game. 10\31 The Wings come back from 2 goals down to take the lead in the 3rd, then allow a late goal and a game winner in OT at St.Louis, losing 4-5. Scoring were LaPointe, Duchesne, Yzerman, and Lidstrom. Ken Wregget started in net. Next up: the Kings at the Joe on Wednesday. Larry Murphy played his 1488th game last night, passing Wayne Gretsky for 4th on the all time games played list. 10\30 The Wings let the Blackhawks skate all over the place and lose 2-4. Scoring were Duchesne and Chelios. Next up: tonight at St.Louis. 10\28 The Avs put up a fight, but the Wings put up 5 as they beat Colorado 5-3. Scoring were Shanahan(2), Kozlov, Holmstrom, and McCarty(en.) Next up: the Blackhawks at the Joe on Friday. 10\24 The Wings escape Chicago with a 1-0 win. Scoring was Shanahan. Chris Osgood got his second shutout of the year and is so far undefeated. Next up: Colorado on Wednesday at the Joe. 10\22 From the Free Press: "Forward Marc Rodgers cleared waivers Wednesday, and the Wings assigned him to the Manitoba Moose of the IHL. That makes a roster spot available for forward Brent Gilchrist, about ready to return after sitting out with lower-abdominal trouble since before training camp. Rodgers won a roster spot with his hustle during the exhibition season, and he played in two regular-season games, recording no points and finishing a minus-2. Gilchrist likely won't break into the lineup right away, because the Wings are winning. He played defense during practice Thursday." As far as I know, tonight's game vs Anaheim won't happen. I have two different schedules that say there's a game tonight, but there's no mention of it in TV listings or the sports channels. So...Next up: at Chicago at 7PM tomarrow. 10\21 DETROIT (Ticker) -- Sergei Fedorov extended his scoring streak to six games and Chris Osgood remained unbeaten as the Detroit Red Wings skated past the league-leading San Jose Sharks, 6-3. Scoring were Shanahan, LaPointe, McCarty, Larionov, Fedorov, and Brown. Next up: Anaheim on Friday at the Joe. The Wings have offered a contract extension to Brendan Shanahan. It's not an issue yet, but it shows that Shanny (who often says he wants to stay put) is wanted back next year. 10\17 The Wings edge the Flyers 3-2. Scoring were Draper, Brown, and Kozlov. The win was Scotty Bowman's 1100 career win. Next up: San Jose on Wednesday the 20th at the Joe. 10\14 From the AP: "Steve Yzerman moved into a tie for eighth place on the NHL career scoring list and Detroit went 3-for-8 with the man advantage as the Red Wings beat the St. Louis Blues 4-2 Wednesday night." Scoring were Murphy, Larionov, Holmstrom, and Lidstrom. Darren McCarty received 40 stitches in his forehead after getting cut with a skate. He returned to the game after about an hour. Jiri Fischer played very well in his first NHL game. Next up: Philly at the Joe on Saturday. From the Free Press: "The Red Wings reacquired goaltender Manny Legace, who was placed on waivers by Vancouver -- the same club that claimed him off waivers from the Wings on Sept. 29. Legace, who signed with the Wings in the off-season and played well in exhibitions, was assigned to Manitoba of the IHL." From the Detroit News: "Wings captain Steve Yzerman got an assist Wednesday night and is tied for eighth place on the NHL career scoring list. Here are the top 10 (x-active): Wayne Gretzky 2,857 Gordie Howe 1,850 Marcel Dionne 1,771 x-Mark Messier 1,663 Phil Esposito 1,590 Mario Lemieux 1,494 x-Ron Francis 1,491 x-Steve Yzerman 1,487 x-Paul Coffey 1,487 x-Ray Bourque 1,470 10\13 From the Free Press:"Expect rookie defenseman Jiri Fischer to make his NHL debut tonight wearing Slava Fetisov's old No. 2. Fischer had been wearing No. 54 during the exhibition season, but said his switch came at the behest of the coaches...Forward Joe Kocur's future could be determined next week when he attempts to skate after his latest hernia treatment. "It becomes a matter of pain tolerance," trainer John Wharton said. "It'll come down to how well he can skate and how effective he is." Nothing new on Kirk Malby, but Brent Gilchrist should begin light practices soon. There's a good article in the Detroit News today about the finacial woes of the NHL. 10\10 The Wings fell asleep after the first period and tie the Panthers 2-2. Scoring were Shanahan and Fedorov. Chris Osgood was stellar in the OT. Darren McCarty got into it with Todd Simpson in the 1st. I'd call it a draw. Next up: St.Louis at the Joe on Wednesday. Happy Birthday to John Lennon. 10\8 The Wings pounded the Thrashers 7-1. Scoring were Yzerman, Larionov, Kozlov, Duchesne, Fedorov, Holmstrom and Brown. Next up: at Florida on Saturday. From the Detroit News:"With his two assists Thursday, Larry Murphy moved past Mario Lemieux for 12th place in career assists with 882.... Chris Chelios drew an assist on Steve Duchesne's goal, giving Chelios 800 career." "It'll be about three to five weeks," Scotty Bowman said about Kirk Maltby. 10\7 Darren McCarty has signed a $5.4 million deal over three years, with significant bonuses. McCarty has stayed in shape by working out with the junior Windsor Spitfires of the Ontario Hockey League. He went head first into the boards without his helmet and his status is as yet unknown. 10\1 From the Detroit News:"The Vancouver Canucks picked goalie Manny Legace off the waiver wire, leaving the Wings with Jason Elliot and Aren Miller as reserves should anything happen to Osgood or backup Ken Wregget."
