These small, rolling earthworks are all that remain of Fort Kaskaskia. In 1776, at the threat of British occupation, the townspeople destroyed the Fort.
Atop the hill on which the Fort sits, an overlook provides a spectacular panoramic view of the wandering Mississippi River and Old Kaskaskia, the first capital
of Illinois.
