An oxbow lake is a crescent shaped
lake (such as the horseshoe shaped lake on the right side of the above
picture), occupying the abandoned channel of a strream meander that is
isolated from the present channel by a meander cutoff and sediment.
With time, an oxbow lake is filled with sediment and vegitation.
