Johnson "Roots"

Trading Post

of
Glasscock, Handcock and Washington Counties, Georgia

While traveling down a country lane, I spotted an old homeplace, the house was no longer standing but something compelled me to stop and take a closer look..as I walk closer and closer my mind is wondering who was the last person to live here, then who was the first.I look around and notice a few bunches of  Johniquils blooming in the warm spring air...Not a lot here to tell me anything, Just an old Chimney and some rotten pieces of boards. I may as well leave. A soft warm breeze is blowing through an old Chinaberry tree..an Erie feeling comes over me..suddenly it is as if I hear sounds from the past..it is voices..some in laughter, some sad moaning and some just solemn words.I want to cry out to these voices, tell me who you are? Do I know you?  who walked here? Who worked these fields, who kept looking out the kitchen door to keep a check on the  Children I hear laughing and playing? I feel so close to them, it is as if we have just met and were introduced by the the wind. I can't put a name to them,or a face but they reminded me that I too have ancestors gone on before me,  and I find within myself a deep seated desire to search out my roots, I must find them and become acquainted with my ancestors the only way I can..in creating a Family tree that will be passed on to my children and grandchildren..less they too..somwhere in the future..stand in the yard I now call my homeplace, calling out to the wind, who are you? Do I know you? Who lived here?.....

I am trying to create here a place where anyone can come and browse for information they might be able to use and also to give to us any that might benefit others searching the same names.

Please understand, whereas most of the information gathered here comes from The Census records, birth ,death and marriage records...A lot of it is from 'word of mouth' as passed from one generation to another and by no means considered as 'The Gospel", we ask for the chance and choice to make changes here as we see they are needed.

This page is for family research use only. Information contained within it is not to be used for commercial purposes.

Our interest here centers around one man ,
with decendants reaching far and wide..
So little is known about him ,
yet his blood still flows in the veins of many
of us today and we are searching.....
....for any information on one:
James Monroe Johnson
To see some of the facts,
(and maybe a tad of fiction) that we have
gathered click here.......MORE
