My Wood Carvings

Hello, I Am Sparrow , welcome to my page of carvings.

Before you go any farther, please, may I remind you that I am a novice at carving. I started in November of '98..  So far I have not had the opportunity to take any classes. What I have learned thus far has been from trial and error, a few books, some web pages that have tutorials, and the help of some people I met on the woodcarvers mailing list.

This poor fella was my first face...I went into the yard, cut a branch from the plumb tree, got a utility knife and started cutting! He is now cracked right down the middle of his face but he holds a place of honor , center top shelf of my display cabinet.

This one...I picked a piece of driftwood from the water, dried it by a campfire and also carved him by the light of the campfire. Is he a Santa or a Hobo?

They all look sad, but thus far, my favorite ones.

This whistle I made as a gift for the one who has given me the most help in learning to carve..I have never met a more unselfish person than this, to go to such lengths to help someone they will probably never even meet in person.Just an example of the kindness I found from the mailing list. Hey, the whistle really works too.
