"Little    Lita's    Page    !"

This is a special page. A page dedicated and devoted to a special little girl named "Lita". Please take the time to meet her and hear her story. It is heartbreaking and heartwarming and will fill you with hope, a belief in miracles and the importance of the power of love.

This is my good friend David and his wife Daphne's precious little treasure named "Lita".

Little Lita's story: Six months ago, on March 11, 1998, Lita and her little cousin Hadas were struck by a car that went out of control while they were being pushed in a stroller, beginning to cross the street at a green light. The car came from nowhere and there was not enough time to get out of the way. Both babies were stuck.. Lita was an active baby, walking, talking and laughing. A sheer delight to her parents and everyone who met her either personally or through David's pics and stories.

For almost 4 weeks after the accident, Lita layed in a deep coma, then almost another 2 weeks went by as she slowly awoke from it. The trauma to her brain wiped her memory clean, and she was cortically blind and mute. She only had the slight ability to move her left arm and hand, and to turn her head. She could not eat or swallow liquids.

Today, 6 months later a miracle has happened. Through the love and dedication of her parents and family, and through the care she received from her doctors, and support and prayer from friends all across the world, little Lita has made an amazing recovery.

Lita now has complete functional vision, and for the most part, aware of her enviornment and recognizes the people around her. She has progressed cognitively, can vocalize "baby sounds" and, seems to be progressing to real expressive speech. She is much more advanced with "receptive speech" and can understand words and communication at virtually an age-appropriate level.

She can feed herself solid foods and will accept help to drink from a glass. Her left arm is virtually completely functional, and her right arm, though much slower, is improving. She cannot walk again yet, but is starting to stand with assistance, and can lift her feet to take tentative assisted steps.

Her greatest achievements have been the development of sufficient body strength to be able to sit unassisted and to be able to sit up unassisted. All of this bodes well for a good recovery. She is still the same sweet, loving baby she always was. Always a smile and a twinkle in her beautiful big eyes. She is able to reach in and tug at everyone's heartstrings...

The majority of Lita's succesful treatments to bring her back to all of us was done at Toronto's Sick Childrens Hospital on University Avenue. As usual, the doctors and staff there have created yet another miracle.
