"The Best Practical Joke Played On Me"

A little explanation is required here... I have two best friends, one is Karen and the other is Dave. They know of a tale in my family about someone in my family having an imaginary friend when they were very little. But.. the odd thing about this tale is this imaginary friend keeps resurfacing every now and then. The imaginary friend had a name, Susan Brandon.

Every 10 years or so someone in our family would hear this name from somewhere and it would start another round of jokes and stories. One day, it was my mother and I that heard it while surfing channels for something to watch one day.. The Price Is Right was on the tube and although we never watched game shows for some reason we decided to watch it that day. Well, one of the contestants name was, of all things, Susan Brandon.

This of course, started another round of "Susan Brandon" stories... Odd things always happen in our family.. Strange coincidences. weird and strange things that just don't happen to others as much as they seem to us...

Today, on Friday October 16/98, I went to check my guestbook to see if there were any new sign ins and low and behold I see a message from a "Susan Brandon"! Well, I damn near die on the spot! I notice she has a homepage too.... quickly I clicked on it... and presto! Up comes a homepage... The homepage of Susan Brandon. I start to read with such anticipation my chest is tight.

With each line I grew more shocked... She is around my age.. Lives in a small town in Ontario, north of Toronto. (I grew up some in a town like that). She has a daughter. Named Victoria!... She is home nursing a broken leg! (This imaginary friend disappeared on day after breaking her leg!) And many other coincidences.. At the bottom of the page there was even a pic of her and her daughter.

As I scrolled more I noticed an email and simply had to email her back but with the excitement and shock I felt, I called my mother over to see the page... and phoned my sister.. told a friend over icq about it that I happened to be talking to at the time... and was busting to tell Dave about it.. but he wasn't on icq yet.

I was compelled to email this woman and tell her our family tale. While in the middle of it a name popped up on my screen and it was my bud Dave... I jumped all over the chance to tell him about this latest adventure in the suburbs of the land of Oz named "Susan Brandon". I left the email for a few and furiously wrote back and forth about it to him.

Being the motormouth I am, it took several message boards to get the entire story of my discovery this morning typed to him. He was stunned to say the least but knows how strange things always happen to me and those in my family. Back and forth we went for about 10 or 15 minutes when all of a sudden he messages me back saying that I had best check Susan's homepage again... something had changed... she had added something else weird and coincidental.

Leaving poor Dave behind I jumped at the chance to see what he had found. So damned eager that I clicked at least twice on my refresh and froze the screen. Got back to him, begging him to print the thing for me just in case I lose it and can't get back.. then on I went waiting for my screen to unfreeze. Finally.. finally.. my screen unfroze and I refreshed the page. Looking at it at first I saw no differences but as I scrolled down I noticed something coming into view. Something on the bottom right hand corner.

As it came into view I couldn't believe my poor eyes... there before me was a picture of Dave, with a big grin on his face and a beer in his hand, with a big green balloon above him that said in it: "Sorry Vic, couldn't resist...hahahahahahaha"

Immediately I messaged Dave back.. called him a s***head, and then started laughing so hard I cried and couldn't type a word because I was shaking so much with laughter.

He got me! I fell for it hook, line and sinker. As usual. He said he was laughing so hard as I told him this bizarre story that his sides ached.. This has to be "the best" practical joke ever played on me in my lifetime and there have been some winners..

If you would like to see this wonderful joke and the homepage Dave made for it simply click on "View My Guestbook" below and take a look at the trouble Dave went to to pull this one off. What friends I have! hahahahaha (Be sure to click on Susan's Homepage)

Now, maybe one day I'll let everyone in on my "Apithacater" joke pulled on me by another prankster friend.. It used to be #1 but Dave is at it now and has outdone everyone! Good job bud!!!
