"I am here and you are there"

I'm sitting here, all alone
Trying to reach you on the telephone
Why don't you answer
I know you're home.

I write you letters all the time
I write you poems (some even rhyme)
But you don't write back
And that's a crime.

I love you madly, can't you see
I want so badly for you to be
Here by my side
Lying next to me.

Your eyes are so bright, your skin so fair
You'll never know how much I care
Because I am here
And you are there.
