Setup Disk

This page will take you thru the steps I took when making the Setup Disk. They can be used to blue print car setup. (camber, caster and toe-in) Just mount these disk in place of the wheels and make notes of the measurements. Then you can always set the car up again by using your notes.

The Disk start out as a square piece of material.

The first step is to make a fixture to hold the square material so the center hole can be bored.

This is done on the lathe using a 3/8" drill bit.

Then a 5/8" bit is used to enlarge the hole.

The hole is then bored to size using a boring tool.

Now the center hole is cut and the bolt pattern needs to be marked and drilled.

After laying out the holes. Each is center punched.

Using the drill press each hole is drilled out.

Then the square material is rough cut on the band saw and mounted on an arbor in the lathe and the OD is cut to 5".

Then each disk is sanded smooth.

When your finished and if you have done a good job. You can stack 8 disk together and they should look like one thick disk. Never stack the disk to drill them. The bolt pattern must be perfect to fit your hub. The best way to get the pattern is to mark, center punch and drill each disk.

Here is the first run of 8 Setup Disk.

Hope this helps you both in your workshop and on the track!
