Here is how I make the tie rods and track bars when I don't have the right material.
In this case I used 1 1/2" round stock (6061) and cut it into quarters.
Then I turn each quarter round.
Here is what I started with and what I finished with is a nice round tie rod. It was a lot more work but you see it can be done.
