DUSTY AND HOWDY
When I first started to ride I rode western. My Favorite horse that I rode was a white and black one. I don't think that he was a purebred anything, but no one really cared. Dusty was a very old and loving gelding. At the age of 28 he refused to be retired. So they just kept using him in Lessons for beginners. It wasen't ment to challenge him, It was so that he could continue doing what he loved, being ridden. They tried to retire him many times but each time he wasen't happy and the retuned him to being a school horse. In time he became to be one of my favorites at that barn. I rode him even though my ability was beyond his, neither of us cared much. He liked being ridden and I liked riding him, so it worked out well. But one day it became too much for him to be ridden. He died on a trail ride doing what he loved doing, being ridden . He always seemed to love going into the forest and tacking in the views like it was his first time, in those woods behind the stable where he lived his life for at least 8 years. He was the best horse anyone could ask for, he gave every ride all he could hoping that he would get a pat and a carrot when he was finished. The day that Dusty died was July 20 1997. I am sure that anyone would agree that he was the best horse. Dusty was a very special horse and will always have a spot in my heart. HOWDY Howdy was special horse in a different kind of way that Dusty was. His life ended in March of 1997 (I'll look up the date later). He tripped during a lesson and seemed to be fine but later on that week he passed away. Howdy was great horse because even if his riders feet didn't reach his sides he would respond. He responded to the slightest pressure. He was not lucky enough to get a long beautiful tail like most of the other horses he was beautiful in ways not explainable. I only got the joy of riding him 2 or 3 times because I didn't think that he would be very good. I was at a big lose untill I was asked if I would like to ride him. I remember the day quite well. It was in the winter and no one else showed up for the lesson. It was freezing cold out side. I had my first privite lesson ond my first ride on Howdy. He was great. I'll never forget him. His spot in my heart is right beside Dusty's and just as big.
